SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. If someone searches online for a business, you’d like your website to come close to the top of the list of search results. It’s inevitable that most people will start their search at the top of the list and won’t want to visit too many websites before they find what they want. If your site appears low on the list, they probably won’t even visit. SEO is a way of improving your standing in those all important search results.
There are 2 things which are very important in SEO:
- keywords
- links
Keywords
What’s a keyword? It’s simply a word describing the subject that you put into the search box on your browser. When this word is put into a search engine, a query is sent to the search engine’s database. Most of this data has been gathered by computer programs. These programs don’t record every word, but are likely to take words from headings or from the first 50-100 words on a website.
Links
Search engines like Google will keep track of the number of links that point to websites. The greater the number of links, the higher the ranking will be on the search engine’s listings
Keywords and links are the most important factors in the complicated and ever changing algorithms used by search engines. Search Engine Optimisation is all about focusing on these components to improve your website’s ranking.
